Last Farewell to Prof. Maciej Gembicki
With great sadness, we share the somber news that Prof. Maciej Gembicki, MD, PhD, passed away on August 21, 2021.
A valued member of our community, Prof. Maciej Gembicki has led an exemplary academic career, contributed to endocrinology development, and was one of the 'founding fathers' of the English-based Programs at PUMS. He was an excellent teacher, researcher and physician whose contribution included, among others:
-long-time head of the Department of Endocrinology of Poznan University of Medical Sciences,
-Vice-Dean of Medical Faculty 1969-1972,
-Vice-President for Clinical Affairs and Post-Graduate Education 1984-1987,
-first Dean of Medical Faculty II 1992-1993,
-long-time Chair of the Polish Accreditation Committee for Medical Universities,
-mentor to many generations of students and doctors.
Prof. Gembicki was a two-time recipient of the honorary doctorate degree. For his work, he was also awarded the Officer's Cross, the Knight's Cross and the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, as well as the Gold Cross of Merit, Medal of Polish Education Committee, and "Gloria Medicinae" Medal.
Our heartfelt condolences go to his family and close ones. He will be dearly missed at the University.
The funeral services will take place at Miłostowo Cemetery on Friday, August 27, 2021, at 1.30 pm. There will also be a catholic mass in his memory at 11 am on the same day in St. John Kanty Church in Poznań.
