In the week of July 24 to 30, 2023, we have the pleasure to host a group of 23 students along with a number of faculty from University of South Carolina Beaufort and Grove City College, for a medical summer school project in Poznan.
During Monday's opening event, the guests from South Carolina and Pennsylvania were welcomed by the Vice-President for Science and International Cooperation, Prof. Michał Nowicki, former President, Prof. Jacek Wysocki, as well as by the Center for Medical Education in English's Associate Director for Education and Development, Assoc. Prof. Agnieszka Zawiejska, who also gave the inaugural lecture. The current student President of the Class Representatives' Council, Adonis Hawari, also gave a presentation with introductory information about our school and about Poznan.
In the course of this week the visiting students are attending lectures in medical sciences, learn practical skills in the Medical Simulation Center and in the molecular biology lab, and try their hand at surgical suturing. There are also opportunities to get to know the city of Poznan a little bit thanks to a city tour with a professional guide, and education field trips.
Informal social events in the dormitory organized by the amazing team of PUMS student volunteers, meals in the dormitory cafeteria, and other common activities during the time off classes provide the group with an opportunity to get to know each other better, and to meet some of our current students who are in Poland for the summer.
While the students are occupied, the visiting faculty and administrators take part in a series of work meetings with the authorities of Center for Medical Education in English, and take campus tours to get acknowedged with the facilities and organization of teaching.
The summer school project is coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Zawiejska, and organized by the staff of Admissions and Promotion Office, and of the Center for Medical Education in English, with significant support by student volunteers.
